The first Wednesday Feed, “Digital Natives”, refers to the impact of Web Technologies and Social Media. You will find a youtube.com link featuring a 4min video as well as a presentation that was prepared by IMD Professor Stefan Michel together with IMD MBA Participants for the 2010 Orchestrating Winning Performance Conference. Have a look to find out if you are a Digital Native and discuss your view on what impact the digital media may have on Evonik’s business, today and in the future.
Curious to read your perspective!

Dear Anne-Catrin,
ReplyDeletegiven the fact that I am proud to even open all the documents and links with my equipement probably already disqualifies me as a Digital Native. Reading and looking more into it I am definitly not part of that generation.
But of course I do see the impact and actually address these topics in my daily business. We just opened a customer web 2.0 customer interface and also have a project where we want to become more active in social media.
My experience from this is that Evonik as a company is not very prepared for this new paradigm since the procedures are not in place to support such initiatives.
Regards
Axel
Unfortunately I'm not able to both view the video due to Evoniks old browser and some kind of Sony video content and download the presentation because by trying it the webpage crashed.
ReplyDeleteApparently I am not a digital native.

Hi Sabine,
ReplyDeleteas you know, I could not watch the first video, but could access the second one. But I think I get the guist of it.
I would not call myself a Digital Native (I think they used to be called "Nerds"), but I am no immigrant either.
I simply believe that we need to use such media wisely, not to lose personal contact to people when it matters.
Also, the amount of information that is available at any corner of the web can easily overwhelm, and some people need to adjust to the speed of communication and decision making that is needed to follow such trends.
But in general it makes our life a lot easier, but also faster!
It´s really hard to work with these technologies as long as the company´s IT makes it almost impossible to use it. What a luck, that I still have my old private laptop.
ReplyDeleteI think I am definitely not a Digital Native. I don´t use facebook, twitter or similar platforms.
In my opinion its a mixed blessing. Its nice to have the huge volume of information any time in any place you want, but there also exits the risk to get lost in the web and loose the view for the essential things in life.
Thanks, Silke, for sharing this! As mentioned by the others, YouTube is blocked from company equipment, but I followed the link from my netbook. I liked it very much since it is summarizing the technology evolution.
ReplyDeletewhat makes me think about the all this is the word of mouth thing. i do believe there is a strength in it, maybe the strength of the social network.
ReplyDeletealex
Dear all,
ReplyDeleteI recently received an interesting Link about that topic of social networking...ending with the question if the facebook profile may become more powerfiul than the person itself.. If you have 20 min I can only reccomend it...
